Abstract

This trial was to study the effects of housefly larvae products on growth performance, antioxidant ability and immune indices in yellow-feathered broilers. Two hundred and fifty-two one-day-old yellow-feathered broilers were randomly allotted to 7 groups, and each group had 3 replicates with 12 broilers per replicate. The control group was fed the basal diet, and other six groups were fed the basal diet with 0.2% and 0.5% housefly larvae enzymatic hydrolysis peptides, 0.2% and 0.5% housefly larvae hydrolyzates, 0.2% and 0.5% degreasing housefly larvae powder, respectively. The trial lasted for 28 days. The results showed that housefly larvae peptide significantly increased the average daily gain and decreased the feed/gain of yellow-feathered broilers (P<0.05), and had a better result than housefly larvae hydrolyzates and degreasing housefly larvae powder. Compared with the control group, the immune organ indices of broilers were tended to be increased (P>0.05), and the activities of serum catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and total anti-oxidation capacity (T-AOC) were increased and the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) was decreased in different degrees as broilers were fed basal diets with housefly larvae products, and 0.5% housefly larvae enzymatic hydrolysis peptide was significantly increased in antioxidant ability (P<0.05). In conclusion, housefly larvae peptide has a high biological activity to improve the growth performance and antioxidant ability in broilers.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition, 2010,22(3):762-768]
