Abstract

This experiment was conducted to study the effects of dietary vitamin E and organic selenium on laying performance, egg quality, serum biochemical parameters and salted egg yolk quality of Youxian partridge ducks. A total of 200 healthy Youxian partridge ducks during peak laying period were randomly divided into 4 groups with 5 replicates in each group and 10 ducks in each replicate. Ducks in the control group (group Ⅰ) were fed a basal diet, and those in three experimental groups (groups Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ) were fed the basal diet supplemented with 50 IU/kg vitamin E, 0.2 mg/kg selenium and 0.2 mg/kg selenium+50 IU/kg vitamin E, respectively. The experiment lasted for 63 days. The results showed as follows:1) the laying rate and daily egg weight of groups Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05). The feed/egg of groups Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). 2) The yolk selenium content of groups Ⅲ and Ⅳ was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). The yolk vitamin E content of groups Ⅱ and Ⅳ was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). 3) The yolk hard core ratio of salted eggs of groups Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.05), and the hard core ratio of group Ⅳ was significantly lower than that of groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ (P<0.05). 4) The serum malondialdehyde (MDA) content of groups Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). The serum glutathione (GSH) content and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity of groups Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05). In conclusion, dietary vitamin E, organic selenium or their combination can improve laying performance and antioxidant capacity of Youxian partridge ducks during peak laying peak period, and there is a synergistic effect of dietary vitamin E and organic selenium on reducing the yolk hard core ratio induced by salted egg processing.
